Two of the Palestinian victims were members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) wanted by Israel for alleged ties with activities of the resistance.

A military spokesman in Tel Aviv confirmed the deaths and declared that one was a leader of Hamas’ Azzedin al Kasan Brigades and the other took part in the capture of the Israeli soldier Guilad Shalit, in June 2006.

Meanwhile on Thursday night, an Israeli soldier died from wounds sustained when he was shot during a patrol of the Shuafat Refugee Camp north of Jerusalem.

Egyptian soldiers and equipment deployed at the border with Gaza began to withdraw on Friday which, according to media, has the presumed purpose of closing the border crossing, where for two days 700,000 Palestinians have entered Egypt to buy staples unattainable in Gaza since Israel blockaded the zone.
