New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Abdur Razzaq Memon, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case, and ordered stay on his execution. Abdur Razzaq is brother of Tiger Memon, the key offender in this case. A Supreme Court bench headed by chief justice K.G. Balakrishnan granted him the bail. Special TADA Court had found Abdur Razzaq guilty of playing a crucial role in masterminding the blasts which killed about 800 people.

Pleading for Abdur Razzaq, senior advocate Harish Salve contended that his client should be granted bail because he has spent more than twelve years of his life in jail. Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted bail to him on September 7, 2007, on the condition that as soon he receives the copy of TADA Court’s judgment, he will have to surrender voluntarily. This time, Abdur Razzaq made a plea to the apex court that he be granted bail because the copy of the TADA Court verdict has not yet been made available to him.
