NEW DELHI, Jan 29 (APP): In a major clash between border forces of India and Bangladesh on Tuesday morning, two personnel of Bangladesh Rifles and a school boy were killed in West Bengal’s Malda and South Dinajpur districts.
Superintendent of Police Kalyan Mullick said three Bangladeshis were also injured in the exchange of fire which took place in the morning and continued till 11 a.m.
Sources in the Indian Border Security Forces in Shillong accused Bangladesh Rifles for opening fire along the South Dinajpur border. The BSF returned the fire.
India alleged that the BSF was fired upon by Bangladesh Rifles when it launched an operation to trace its sub inspector Om Prakash who was kidnapped by Bangladesh Rifles in Patiram area in Malda district.
In view of this stand off, the Indian border forces have been on high alert along the entire bangladesh border.
Media reports quoting BSF Director General A K Mitra said three personnel of Bangladesh Rifles and a Bangladeshi civilian suffered bullet injuries while a BSF constable was also hit during the exchange of fire.
However, Om Prakash was later handed back at a flag meeting this afternoon, the BSF sources said.
