Toronto : A love triangle reportedly led to the murder of an Indo-Canadian youth in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.
Identified only as Sonny, the victim was in his lover’s apartment when he was gunned down Monday by another Indo-Canadian youth.
The victim was in his early twenties. He had been living with his lover, Ripy Kaur Jubbal, for the past six months.
Jubbal had previously been the girlfriend of the alleged killer who resented her moving in with Sonny.
According to the police, Jubbal had also filed a complaint against her former lover for assault.
Both the killer and the man who died had gang connections, police said.
Four years ago, Jubbal was convicted for duping a credit union to the tune of $17,000.
She had also failed to pay her apartment loan, forcing the loan company to seek court intervention and put her house on sale to recover the loan.
Neighbours said all sorts of people frequented her house at odd hours. They said verbal fights often erupted between the woman and her visitors at night.
A suburb of 400,000 people, Surrey is one of Canada’s fastest growing places. The local Indo-Canadian community, which makes up about 20 percent of the population, has been plagued by violence among youths since the early 1990s.
More than 100 youths have been killed in Indo-Canadian gang wars since then. The latest shooting death comes after months of lull in the gang warfare.
