The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz said in its edition published on Thursday that Barak “has no reason that may compel him to withdraw from the government of Ehud Olmert, but the minister may call for early elections in Israel in light of the report.

Quoting sources close to Barak, the newspaper said the minister would comment on the report in a few days.

Early today, members of the Labor Party held a meeting at headquarters of the party in Tel Aviv to ponder prospects of their quitting of the government. Israel Radio said most Labor ministers were against the walkout from the cabinet.

Families of many Israeli soldiers who had fallen in the 2006 war urged Olmert to tender resignation of his cabinet after the declaration of the report.
