In his letter dated 23rd May, Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan addressed to the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) expressed disbelief that a school Head Master has been suspended for questioning about the unfulfilled promises made by the CM.

He also  mentioned in his letter “Mr. Lateef Khan, besides being a teacher, is also a reputed human rights activist known in India and abroad. Moreover, as a citizen of a free and democratic country, he is entitled to speak his mind. Rather, he should be encouraged to do so. Telangana should be proud of having such citizens who stand out and act as the conscience of the people”.

The chairman called the act of suspension of Lateef Khan as ‘action taken by some overzealous officer who is oblivious of the democratic rights of a free country’. He also requested the CM KCR to withdraw the suspension order and instead recognise the services rendered by Lateef Khan as a Human rights activist to the people of Telangana.

Apart from the Minorities commission, many organisations, academicians, lawyers, professionals from the teaching faculty and activists have all come out in support of Lateef Khan and conducted protest meets in their respective districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. They have started an online petition addressed to the Commissioner and Director of School Education  , in which they mentioned that Lateef Mohammed Khan is not the only teacher to be acting like a watchdog, there have been school and college teachers and other government employees who have time and again questioned the actions, policies of the ruling government and acted as watchdogs to keep the democratic process alive. Hence the suspension order is against the principles of natural Justice.

activists in Hyderabad meet Lateef Md Khan to express solidarity and support

Mohammed Lateef Khan, though very active as a Human Rights activist has never misused his office as a government servant and discharged his duties as the Head master fully well without any blemish.

The activists feel that this act of suspension is malafidely and politically motivated to mentally harass him and to disturb his official position, public and personal/ family life.

There is a growing demand from all corners of the state to reinstate Lateef Khan.
