Mogadishu : At least seven women were killed and many wounded after their minibus was hit by a roadside bomb in the southern Waberi district of the Somalian capital, the police and witnesses said Sunday.
“There were limbs and blood everywhere around the wreckage of the minibus. I saw the dismembered bodies of seven women and the bus was extensively damaged,” eyewitness Yusuf Gulet told Xinhua.
The women were kat traders. Kat, commonly consumed in the country is a chewing leaf that contains ephedrine-like narcotic compounds.
They were travelling to an airstrip in the southern outskirts of Mogadishu where small planes carrying consignments of kat arrive from Kenya, where the plant is grown.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the blast. Somalia has been without a central authority since the overthrow of the late president Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991.
