Nairobi : Insurgents opposing Chadian President Idriss Deby were attacked by planes and helicopters Sunday in several zones of N’Djamena, the capital, according to radio reports from the neighbour country.
Rebel spokesman Mahamat Hassane Boulmaye said that Saturday night was quiet, but fierce combats restarted early today, though he could not confirm the air attacks against the rebels.
The artillery exchange was particularly intense in sector near the presidential palace, with the Chadian press reporting that at least one chopper was brought down early today in the capital.
Hassane Boulmaye made no exact reference to the number of casualties, but affirmed it is high, and many soldiers were joining the anti-government troops.
The insurgents believe Deby and his collaborators are in the presidential complex, and rejected that Libya was negotiating a truce.
However, press media suppose the president is in a French military base, but there is no official version.
Meanwhile, French governmental sources stated Deby rejected Paris’ recent proposal to leave Chad.
