Palakkad (Kerala) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a 24-hour shutdown in Palakkad district of Kerala Wednesday to protest police action against five workers of the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in two murder cases.
The shutdown will begin midnight Tuesday.
The five people are accused in the murder of two Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) workers in Malampuzha in the district last October.
They have been booked under the Prevention of Anti-social Activities Act. Two of them have been given bail.
“Three of our workers were rearrested under the ‘Goonda Act’ and are to be sent to the central jail in Thrissur. They have no police cases against them to list them as anti-socials. The CPI-M is using its influence over police to torture our workers,” said K. Sivadas, BJP Palakkad district president.
