Power supply restored to main installations, district headquarters of Kashmir: Govt

Srinagar : The Divisional administration Kashmir has geared up all its agencies to combat the situation arising due to continuous snowfall in the Valley.

The Additional Commissioner Kashmir, M. Afzal along with a high level team of officers visited various areas to take stock of the availability of essential commodities including K. oil and LPG. Expressing satisfaction over the availability of essentials, the Additional Commissioner appealed the people to extend their cooperation to the administration in curbing hoarding and profiteering.

Earlier, the Additional Commissioner discussed measures taken for providing all possible basic amenities to the people particularly power and water supply. He was informed that PDD took immediate measures for restoring 33 KV lines interrupted due to snowfall. However, restoration of work is apace in Chrar-i-sharief, Khag, Beerwah, Shadimarg Shopian, and Kulan-Gagangeer.

The timely restoration has facilitated in providing power supply to all essential installations and district headquarters. He was informed that the forced cuts in load after restoration were affected due to disturbance in the Northern Grid system due to dense fog which forced to restrict drawals from Northern Grid meaning restricted power availability from there. For attending to any further damage to the lines due to continuous snowfall, disaster management teams of Power Development department are already established and are at work at all district headquarters.

The District Administration in Anantnag also reviewed stock and supply position and snow clearance measures. Expressing satisfaction over the stock position, it was told that most of the roads in the district have been cleared for traffic.

The district administration in Baramulla while taking stock of the essentials, it was told that major roads including Baramulla-Narbal road has been cleared from snow for traffic.

The District Development Commissioner Bandipora while reviewed the stock and supply position of essentials, said that the main road connecting Bandipora with Srinagar and Sopore has been cleared of snow and traffic is plying. The work on other roads is going afoot.

The District administration Kupwara also reviewed the situation arising due to snowfall particularly in higher belts of the district.

It was told that main routes have been cleared of snow for traffic movement.

The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal also reviewed supply and stock position in the district and snow clearance operations in the district.

The District Development Commissioner Kulgam while reviewing the situation arising due to heavy snowfall appealed people particularly living in higher belts to restrict their movement in view of avalanches.
