Agartala : A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed Wednesday in an ambush by tribal separatists in Tripura, officials said.
A police spokesman said heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) attacked a BSF patrol near village Raishabari, 175 km south of here.
"The rebels later decamped with a self-loading rifle and other ammunition from the dead trooper," a senior police official said.
The BSF jawan was identified as Dinabandu Paul, 45, originally hailing from Orissa.
Senior BSF and police officials have since launched a hunt to nab the rebels.
The NLFT is a rebel group fighting for an independent tribal homeland in Tripura.
