New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Friday said the Delhi government has completely failed to stop the mushrooming unauthorised private schools in the national capital.
A division bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Aruna Suresh asked the directorate of education (DoE) to conduct a survey and identify unauthorised schools and follow a proper procedure to regularise them, provided they fulfil the basic requirements for running a school.
The ruling came on a 2006 petition filed by a voluntary organisation, Social Jurist, asking for directions to regulate unauthorised schools in Delhi.
“There are more than 10,000 schools which are running without any approval or permission from the government and about 600,000 students study in these schools. These schools have no right to play with the future of these children,” said Ashok Aggarwal of Social Jurist.
These unauthorised schools lack basic structures, fee structure or even a proper teaching staff, These schools need to be regularised under proper guidelines, he added.
