Maoists attack police stations in Orissa, one killed

Bhubaneswar : Armed Maoists carried out simultaneous attacks on three police stations in Orissa’s Nayagarh district late Friday night and looted arms. A youth was killed in the cross fire when police retaliated.

A large group of Maoists bombed the district police headquarters in Nayagarh, 85 km from here, at around 10.30 p.m. They looted arms from the police station, a police source told IANS.

“They have surrounded the superintendent of police’s house,” said an intelligence official.

Another group attacked the police station in Dashpoalla town and in another place nearby, the official said.

A high alert has been sounded and 200 police personnel have been deployed in the area.

“The telephone lines in the area have been disconnected,” the official told IANS.
