New Delhi : Millions in Delhi and the northern plains got a welcome respite from the long spell of severe cold as the temperatures rose Saturday and raised hopes of an end to what this year has been a rather severe winter.
The minimum temperature in the national capital was nearly 10 degrees Celsius and the maximum was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius. Most of the cities in the northern plains saw similar trends with the clear skies and a maximum temperature around 25 degrees, giving people a welcome relief from the cold.
The Met Office here said that the minimum temperature in the northern plains would rise for the next couple of days till Monday.
The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 3.2 degrees Celsius recorded at Amritsar in Punjab.
The Met Office has forecast rain or thundershowers for Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh for the next couple of days. The rest of the country will see mainly dry weather.
Light snow or rain is forecast for the Kashmir Valley for Sunday and weatherman said the temperature would remain around the freezing point at zero degree Celsius.
