Berlin : German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday described her country’s relations with Kuwait as good and in continuing development.
Merkel made the remark during a meet the press session, where audio-visual media were present including the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The chancellor, who was replying to a question by KUNA, expressed her own support and that of German Foreign Minister Walter Steinmeyer to the Middle East peace process.
She also called for finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the premise of one independent Palestinian state co-existing side by side with the Israeli state.
She said there was much left to be sorted out in that conflict including the borders issue and the matter of the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes.
She stressed that the Middle East agenda “is clear” and called for improving living conditions for Palestinians specifically in the West Bank.
She lauded the recent summit between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
She also expressed support to Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence.
