Tibetan community gets animal welfare award

Dharamsala : The Tibetan refugee community in India has been awarded the 10th Venu Menon National Animal Award for exemplary work in protecting wildlife.

Kalon Tempa Tsering, a representative of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, accepted the award on behalf of the community in New Delhi late Tuesday, the spokesman of the ‘Tibetan government in exile’ said Wednesday.

The other recipients of the award included six individuals and two organisations.

The awards, named after the late communications professional and animal lover, commemorate excellence in animal welfare since 1999.
