Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut evacuated after bomb threat

Beirut : Staff at Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut were evacuated Thursday after anonymous caller threatened to target the embassy with two mortar shells, local Elnashra website reported.

Anonymous caller contacted the embassy and threatened to hit the embassy with two mortar shells, said the report, adding that the Lebanese authorities were immediately informed and the Kuwaitiforeign ministry was informed as well.

An official from Kuwaiti embassy, Tarik Al Hamad, told reporters here that the caller contacted the embassy at about 9:55a.m. (0755 GMT) and said the embassy would be bombed at 10:00 a.m.(0800 GMT). The call was short and precise. The Kuwaiti embassy called on its nationals in Lebanon to be cautious during their moves.

The incident came amid high tension in Lebanon which is facing its worst political crisis since the end of the 1975-1990 civil war.

Saudi Arabia on Monday restricted its nationals from traveling to Lebanon. Two French cultural centers were closed down this week.
