State Drugs Controller Sher Singh Thakur was taken into detention at Baddi, a pharmaceutical hub, in Solan district Friday allegedly for accepting Rs.485,000 in bribes from drug companies for issuing licences to them.

“We have recovered Rs.1.47 million in cash from his house in Solan, besides several bank passbooks, and documents of his properties in Shimla, Mohali and Panchkula. Expensive gadgets and foreign liquor were also recovered,” a senior police official who searched his Solan house, said.

Thakur was taken Saturday to a Solan court, which remanded in judicial custody for five days. He was admitted to a hospital late Sunday in Solan, 48 km from here, because he was suffering from high blood pressure.
