Kabul : A US aid worker and her Afghan driver, kidnapped in southern Afghanistan a month ago, have been presumed killed.
“We are deeply grieved to report the apparent deaths of Muhammad Hadi and Cyd Mizell, workers who were kidnapped by gunmen on Jan 26 in Kandahar, Afghanistan,” said Asian Rural Life development Foundation (ARLDF), theemployers of the aid worker, on their website.
Though the organization has no confirmation of their deaths, ARLDF has “received information over the past few days indicating that our two aid workers have been killed.”
The police and the provincial government in Kandahar did not comment on the case.
Mizell, 50, a native of Eureka, California, had lived in Kandahar since 2005, and taught English to high school students and helped women learn income-generating skills such as sewing and embroidery.
Hadi, a resident of Kandahar, worked for ARLDF as a driver for two years and was father of five children.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnappings.
