“Its good to have Kuwaiti students here, especially the girls. The country is secure, they will be safe here,” he told Bernama in an interview at his office.

Citing engineering, science and technology as among the courses they could pursue, Al-Eissa said he had taken up the matter with Kuwait’s Minister of Higher Education.

“She said she will send a committee to see the universities and colleges here and will make the recommendations,” he said.

“We have many students going to the United States, United Kingdom, Egypt and now some are going to China and Russia, so why not Malaysia ? I see that the standard of education here is very high.

“We need people to know about the Malaysian experience, how it has developed rapidly over the last 20 years.

“When you go to another country to study, you also learn from the people, their way of life,” said Al-Eissa, who visited Malaysia several times before taking up his posting here four months ago.

Apart from education, he said he would focus on increasing trade and investment links between the two countries.

“Finance House (the biggest Islamic bank in that Gulf state and one of the biggest in the world) is investing here and they are encouraging more Kuwaiti companies to come to Malaysia,” he said.

“In Kuwait, we look at Malaysia as a good example of a country that has developed well,” he said.

While encouraging Malaysian businessmen to visit Kuwait to meet their counterparts, he said he would get a Kuwaiti business delegation to Malaysia. “I’m interested if they can go to a third country to undertake a joint venture,” he said.

He said Malaysian construction companies should tap the opportunities in Kuwait which was offering large projects in several new cities being built.
