Ambassador: Science, technology are ingredients of power

Tokyo : Iran’s Ambassador to Japan Abbas Araqchi said here Saturday that science and technology are today components of power in the world.

Araqchi told a group of Iranian academics that science and technology are also considered pillars of any country’s independence.

He said, “Today, technology has the first say and even more powerful and influential than military and economic might in the world.”

He added that countries lagging behind in terms of science and technology cannot claim are really independent.

The diplomat noted that the scientific and technological backwardness definitely affects other areas of living in the countries.

“Today, we are happy that over recent years the movement towards science and technology has been following an upward trend and today we are witnessing remarkable achievements in the field,” he added.

The Iranian official said that today, Iran has gained remarkable achievement in different medical, nuclear and space fields while scoring some more success, namely `Omid’ satellite and `Kavoshgar-1′ explorer, which can carry satellite beyond the space.

All these are sources of pride and honor thanks to endeavors of Iranian scientists and technicians both inside and outside the country, including those in Japan, he added.

He thanked the community of Iranian academics in Japan for arranging such meetings and said Iranian embassy is ready to cooperate with them.

Meanwhile, head of the secretariat of the leadership office Hojjatoleslam Saber Akbar-Jeddi told the meeting that today, Iranian nation neither trusts the westerners nor the Taleban-like
reactionaries.

Akbar-Jeddi said Iranian nation will hopefully continue the path to progress and gain more achievements.
