During his stay in Pakistan, the U.S. general is scheduled to meet Pakistan's senior military commanders, a statement from the army's Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The statement did not give more details about the meetings.

The CENTCOM chief's visit coincides with the visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher.

The top US officials are engaged in talks with Pakistani government ministers and other senior officials on various issues concerning the region.

Negroponte met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri Friday and discussed Pakistan-US relations, counter-terrorism cooperation and Afghanistan.

Boucher Thursday visited the border town of Chaman in Balochistan and reviewed security arrangements along the Pakistani-Afghan border to check illegal cross-border movement.

He also visited the headquarters of Election Commission and received a briefing about plans for the upcoming general elections, scheduled later this year.
