CDI to co-produce movie with ‘Jurassic Park’ maker

Mumbai : Compact Disc India Ltd (CDI) has signed a deal with White Light Entertainment, who produced films like “Jurassic Park” and “Schindler’s List”, to co-produce English movie “Playing with the Enemy”. Based on World War II, it would be made on a budget of $30 million.

Talking to IANS from Chandigarh, CDI chairman Suresh Kumar said in April end both companies would jointly announce the cast and credits of the movie.

“CDI’s association with the movie reflects the company’s ability to co-produce the biggest film any Indian producer has made so far,” Kumar said.

Based on the business performances of 14 movies White Light Entertainment earlier produced, CDI has estimated that “Playing with the Enemy” is expected to gross $318 million worldwide with a profit share pegged at $121 million.

The movie will start production in May 2008 and is slated to release in the first quarter of 2009.

White Light Entertainment has to its credit 33 Academy Award nominations, 19 Academy Awards, including two for the best picture and a total box office collection of $4 billion from the 14 movies it has produced so far. It has also produced hits like “The Lost World”, “Twister”, “Casper”, “Rain Man” and “The Flintstones”.

CDI, one of the largest animation outsourcing companies in South East Asia, has recently been awarded new $19.80 million animation movie project – “3000 B.C.”

The company, which has presence in 28 countries worldwide, has entered into an exclusive animation outsourcing contract with iMedia Ventures Ltd, one of the world’s largest media house and a pioneer in digital entertainment.
