Damascus : Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa has described the Damascus Summit as important to discuss a set of major Arab issues including the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq, Sudan and the Yemeni initiative on dialogue among the Palestinians as well as the outcome of the Arab Economic and Social Council.
Addressing a news conference at the media centre of the Summit here Wednesday, Moussa said the “difficult condition through which the Arab Nation passes stresses the importance of convening this Summit to confront the existing challenges and clear the Arab scenario.”
He said that the resolutions of the Summit will be issued in the name of all Arab countries.
The Arab League chief said lifting the siege imposed on the Palestinian people is an Arab and international responsibility that necessitates prompt movement and united stance to protect the Palestinian people from the Israeli exercises that aim to intimidate the Palestinians.
On Iraq, Moussa said the situation there is very dangerous and of grave concern due to the Iraqi bloodshed, calling for a national reconciliation to get the country out of its ordeal.
On Lebanon, the Arab League chief said the optimal solution to get the country out of its crisis is to implement the Arab initiative, adding that the Arab League is working to activate Arab common work for the utmost benefit of the Arab Nation.
