In his message in memory of those victims, marking a new anniversary of the massacre, Ban insisted in “the moral commitment not to forget painful the lessons drawn from what happened in Rwanda.”

He described as “a moving experience” his visit to the monument in memory of the massacre in Kigali.

“Therefore, this date we are also calling on the international community to step up efforts to prevent genocide from happening again, a cause I am ready to pursue during my term as Secretary General and beyond,” he asserted.
