Beijing : The 16th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees reiterated its firm support to China for hosting the 2008 Summer Olympic games.
In a declaration adopted by consensus of the 205 delegations attending the encounter at China World Hotel, world sports managers decided to participate with their delegations in Beijing 2008.
We will work to consolidate the preparation of athletes in order to contribute to the successful celebration of Olympic Games, the text reads.
The 16th General Assembly rejected all attempts to use Olympic Games with political aims, in defense of the name and image of this sporting event, of the right of sportsmen to participate in the celebration of youth of the planet.
According to the announcement, the Olympic Charter defines in a clear way that the sport movement is the result from the coordinated universal and organized operation under the supreme authority of the International Olympic Committee IOC.
Critics say Beijing is light-years away from the Olympic Charter, which speaks of “the harmonious development of man,” and “promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.”
2008 Summer Olympic Games are mainly aimed at contributing to Peace and to the development of friendship and collaboration among all the nations of the world.
According to the document of consensus of those participants in the sessions, Beijing was awarded 2008 Summer Olympic Games, after a rigorous process based on the regulations and procedures established by IOC.
The 16th General Assembly is to conclude Wednesday, to begin then IOC Executive Committee meeting, that plans to ratify the support to Chinese authorities in the organization of coming 2008 Summer Gmaes.
