This she said while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly after the journalists from the Press Gallery staged a token walk out from the press gallery to protest violent attacks on media persons especially electronic media cameramen in Karachi.

“The present government is different from the previous one and believes that democratic process cannot be run without the Press which is the fourth pillar of the state. Neither we can run the House, nor the country without media”, she said.

She said that the government would stand by with the journalist
community in their time of trial as in some areas of the country they are working in ‘conflict zone’. She appealed to the media to be patient in this critical juncture and give some time to the new government to solve their problems.

She also announced that in the coming Cabinet meeting a proposal to form a Journalist Victim Fund would be taken up so that the bereaved families of the journalists who lose their lives in line of duty can be provided financial help.

This fund, she added, would be managed by a committee to ensure transparency in its spending.—NNN-APP
