FAO Awards Indian Prime Minister

United Nations : The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization granted the Agricultural Medal to India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his efforts to foster the agricultural development and reduce hunger in India, it was reported here Thursday.

This is the highest recognition FAO gives to qualify an exemplary vision and determination by someone doing things to develop food and agriculture in his country.

A communiqué published here said that Singh has a deep knowledge of the Indian economy and has modernized and revitalized the country’s agriculture, making it its highest priority.

The agricultural production represents 18.5 percent of the Indian Gross Domestic Product.
