AITA should resolve lingering issue, says Bhupathi

New Delhi : Mahesh Bhupathi wants the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to resolve all issues between him and his estranged partner and Davis Cup captain Leander Paes, if India wants a medal at the Beijing Olympics in August.

Bhupathi’s statement came a day after the AITA reiterated that Paes would lead India in the World Group play-offs in September as he had been appointed captain for a year.

“You just can’t go to the Olympics and expect to win like that. There has to be preparation, there has to be communication. So, a lot of things have to fall in place before that happens. Personally, I would want to resolve a lot of these issues that have been lingering. I don’t think results are just going to happen if these issues are still on the table,” Bhupathi was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

However, Bhupathi said that they have not yet received any sort of communication from the AITA.

“It’s not the communication we received. The AITA has clarified to me that that’s not the communication they gave out to the media as well. So, I think we are waiting for them to finish the inquiry and give it back to us and I think we’ll go from there.”

“But I think we made our stance pretty clear this time that we will keep playing for India as long as the AITA is doing their job and addresses the issue,” he said.
