New Delhi : India defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Asia-Oceania leg of World under-14 tennis championship at Shenzen, China.
Top-seeded India will now take on China, who thrashed Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the other quarterfinal, for a berth in the World Group final to be held in August in Prostejov, Czech Republic.
In the first singles Thursday, Digvijay Singh Mehta beat Temur Ismailov 6-2, 6-1, while Ronit Bisht outplayed Abduvoris Sadmukhamedov 6-1, 6-0 in the second singles.
However, the Mehta and Ramkumar Ramanathan duo later lost the doubles encounter to Sanjar Fayziev and Sadmukhamedov 6-7(4), 2-6.
