Jalgaon (Maharashtra) : A local court has allowed the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) to file a supplementary charge-sheet in a case of murder involving United Progressive Alliance (UPA) presidential nominee Pratibha Patil's younger brother G.N. Patil.
The district and sessions court here Thursday allowed the CBI to file the supplementary charge-sheet in the case against G.N. Patil in the murder of Jalgaon district Congress Committee president V.G. Patil two years ago, official sources told IANS.
The case was handed over to CBI following a statement of the murder accused Raju Mali a few days before his death earlier this year that he was hired by G.N. Patil to assassinate his political rival V.G. Patil.
The UPA presidential nominee is also under a cloud in a case of default of a loan of Rs.175 million by a sugar factory linked to her. The matter dates back to 12 years.
G.N. Patil is chairman of the sugar factory, Sant Muktai Sugar Co-operative, here. He suffered the mortification of seeing his factory sealed by the authorities of the Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank for non-payment of the long-pending loan after a road blockade agitation by shareholders earlier this year.
Pratibha Patil is the founder chairperson of the sugar factory.
The action came 18 months after the bank initiated the loan recovery process allegedly because of pressure exerted by Pratibha Patil, sources said.
Similar allegations were whispered against the low profile Congress veteran in the murder case just before it was handed over to the CBI, the sources added.
