They returned to Sanya City on Hainan on Monday along with eight others who were rescued by either Chinese or Vietnamese vessels, Xinhua News Agency said.

Neoguri struck Hainan on Friday night and weakened into a tropical storm before landing in Guangzhou province the following day where it caused three deaths.

Xinhua News Agency said 18 Chinese and 22 Vietnamese fishermen were still missing, citing a Hainan rescue base official.

Thousands of people were evacuated and flights were cancelled before the approach of the typhoon.

Neoguri is the earliest typhoon to hit China in nearly six decades. China’s typhoon seasons usually starts in late June and it suffered 24 last year.
