Although that legislative authority did not consider that Domenici tried to influence the inquiry, it did reproach him for his telephone conversation with David Iglesias in 2006.

Iglesias was one of the eight lawyers dismissed by President George W. Bush’s administration, due to political reasons, a measure harshly criticized by the democratic congressional group.

The official revealed that the senator called him before the 2006 partial elections to tackle an investigation of corruption in which several democrats were involved, and considered it a political pressure.

You should know that a telephone call of that kind to a federal attorney creates an unfavorable image in the Senate, said a letter sent by that Capitol’s authority to Domenici.

In a communique in 2007, the congressman apologized for that action, but asserted that he did not try at any time to influence the course of investigations.

Domenici is one of the six republican senators that announced that they would resign their position in the Senate in the November elections.
