New Delhi : People in the capital city chose to mostly stay indoors Sunday as the mercury continued to rise in the region, and also across northern and central India. In the Northeast and southern India, however, it was all rain and people braced for more showers.
In Delhi, the maximum temperature was 41 degrees Celsius – one degree more than the Saturday’s maximum, while the minimum temperature was 23.6 degrees Celsius. So, though the days are harsh and hot, the nights continue to somewhat cool and pleasant.
“Even if the car’s AC is on, it is not effective in the heat during the day. It forces one to put off all outdoor jobs. In this scorching heat, you don’t feel like going out unless there is something urgent,” said Anup Dutta, a business development executive at a multi-national company here.
“We have to sit in the office and work, but I wonder about those poor people who have to work under the sun to make a living,” Dutta added.
Dry weather conditions prevailed in most parts of northern and central India. Intense heat wave conditions continued in isolated pockets of Punjab, Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha in Maharashtra.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Barmer in Rajasthan at 44.9 degrees Celsius.
However, there is good news as well.
A low-pressure area that has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal Saturday is likely to intensify and will bring rain and thundershower in the adjoining areas.
Met department forecast widespread rainfall in the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and in the seven Northeastern states during the next 72 hours.
Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are expected to receive thundershowers.
In the south, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are expected to receive thundershower.
