Harare : The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) confirmed opponent Morgan Tsvangirai’s victory in the presidential elections with 48 percent of the votes.
The candidate from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was two points away from obtaining the presidential seat in the first round.
Meanwhile, President Robert Mugabe received 43 percent of the votes.
After recounting and verifying votes ZEC announced the results of March 29 elections.
MDC won parliamentary majority of 109 seats against 97 of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF).
In the case of the Upper House the two political groups obtained equal quantity of seats, 60 each.
The opposition candidate announced he will not accept another contest.
