Beirut : The Lebanese army on Thursday warned against the continuation of the clashes between pro and anti-government activists in eastern Lebanon saying such clashes undermine the unity of the military installation.
In a statement, the army added that absence of responslity disables the army from carrying out its national role.
A Lebanese security source told KUNA that the clashes renewed later in the day where pro-government protestors blocked the main road leading to the Syrian border checkpoint with sand barricades and burning tyres.
The source added that the army was working to reopen the road and mediating between the two sides to ensure full halt to such activities.
Simultaneously, opposition activists continued blocking the airport road in Beirut with burning cars, tyres and sand bags.
Armed clashes broke out between gunmen of the two sides in several regions and towns in the east of the country, including Taanayel and Taalbaya, wounding six persons, the sources said.
In Beirut, high tension prevailed for the second straight day with many roads blocked by gunmen and activists from the two camps, in the shadow of heavy presence of the government military and security personenl.
