New Delhi : Condemning the terror attacks in Jaipur, Canada Wednesday underlined its solidarity with India and said it was working with Indian authorities to determine whether any Canadian has been affected by the incident.
“These terrorist bombings, which occurred in crowded market areas and near a temple, are a deplorable act of violence against innocent civilians,” Canada’s Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier said in a statement released by the Canadian High Commission here.
Serial blasts in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and a favourite haunt of Western tourists, Tuesday killed 63 people and injured over 150 others.
Expressing condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, the Canadian minister said his country stood “firmly united” with India, “a proud and strong democracy, in condemning these acts of terror”.
“We are working with the Indian authorities to determine whether any Canadians have been directly affected by these events,” he said.
“Canada and India have a shared commitment to freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Among our mutual priorities is close cooperation to fight terrorism,” Bernier added.
