Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh police sub-inspector K.K. Dwivedi Wednesday denied Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s claim that he had raided party leader Amar Singh’s residence in Kolkata.
Mulayam Singh had Tuesday alleged that Dwivedi had raided Amar Singh’s house. He had also released a video CD that showed K.K. Dwivedi claiming that he was being pressurised to file cases against Amar Singh and Amitabh Bachchan.
Dwivedi told IANS that although he had gone to Kolkata, he had not conducted any raid. He also alleged that the CD released by Mulayam Singh was fake.
“It is completely false that UP police had raided Amar Singh’s residence. We had gone to Kolkata only to inquire into a case of fake registration of two luxury buses used by Amitabh Bachchan and Amar Singh in January,” Dwivedi told IANS on phone from Hamirpur, where he is posted.
Dwivedi said the buses, with registration numbers of Kolkata and Mumbai, were hired for the inauguration of a school that Bachchan was building in Barabanki district named after his daughter-in-law, film actress Aishwarya Rai. A case of fake registration of the buses was lodged on Feb 2 by M.P. Shukla, Hamirpur’s assistant regional transport officer.
“I don’t know why I am being made a scapegoat. It seems the CD has been doctored,” Dwivedi said.
The policeman said that he, along with a Uttar Pradesh Police constable, had sought assistance from Kolkata police and raided Sarvavottam Cabs, a transport company.
“At the time of the raid, we could only find someone called Abhishek Banerjee at the office of Sarvottam Cabs,” he said. Banerjee told the police that the company’s three directors were living in New Delhi.
Dwivedi refused to say whether or not Amar Singh had any connection with this company.
“We are still to trace the directors, Praveen Singh, Akshay Chaturvedi and Rajeev Gupta. After taking permission from senior officials, we will go to Delhi for further investigation,” he said.
