Seoul : The six-party talks on the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula might be resumed before June 15 after an eight-month suspension, said Kim Sook, South Korea’s chief negotiator for the talks, on Friday.
“The six-party talks are expected to be held in the first half of June, if consultations among related nations and preparations, currently under way, go well,” Kim, who returned from Beijing on Thursday after meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei, told a press briefing.
The next round of the six-party talks will be a very crucial but difficult session, he added.
Kim is set to fly to Washington this weekend to have a trilateral discussion with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts.
He said the finalization of the second stage of the denuclearization process is expected to be discussed at the upcoming six-party talks.
The related parties will also make efforts to map out plans for the third stage of dismantling nuclear programs, he said.
