Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s Congress-led opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) Friday decided to boycott all events presided over by outspoken state Devasom Minister G.Sudhakaran because of his “unbearable” comments.
“His comments have become unbearable and on most occasions have gone beyond the levels of decency, and hence the UDF at its meeting held here has decided to boycott him,” UDF convenor P.P. Thankachen told reporters here.
“We decided to take this extreme step because our pleas to his party (Communist Party of India-Marxist) and to several leaders in the Left Democratic Front to reign him in have yielded no result,” he said.
The Congress is peeved because earlier this week, Sudhakaran lashed out at Defence Minister A.K. Antony, calling him “the most bourgeois politician I have ever seen”.
Sudhakaran, however, said he was “pleased” to hear that the UDF had decided to boycott him.
Sudhakaran, through his remarks, has often targetted UDF leaders, Hindu priests and even the media.
Asked if a mere boycott would keep Sudhakaran in check, Thankachen said this was just the “first step”.
