8 Muslim candidates elected to Karnataka Assembly elections

New Delhi: Muslims were able to improve their representation in the Karnataka Assembly even as BJP set to form its first government in South India.

As opposed to six Muslims in the year 2004, this time Karnataka will have eight Muslim MLAs. An analysis by TwoCircles.net suggested seven seats for Muslim candidates.

2008 winners Tanveer Sait and Roshan Baig were also winners in 2004 elections. Seven of the winning candidates are Congress nominees and one Janata Dal(S). The Congress had fielded 14 Muslim candidates and JD(S) 12, JD(U) had 2 Muslim nominees.
