Jammu and Kashmir outplay Himachal Pradesh in Santosh Trophy

Srinagar : Hosts Jammu and Kashmir outclassed Himachal Pradesh Thursday eight goals to nil to enter the pre-quarter finals of the Santosh Trophy tournament being played here.

The match, being played at Bakshi stadium, was completly dominated by the hosts right from the start.

Ishfaq Ahmad opened the account in the 15th minute with an Adil Qadir long pass from the left wing.

Within minutes Bilal Ahmad scored the second goal and then Ishfaq hit the target in the 18th minute on the rebound of Kamal’s shot that hit the goal post.

With crowd backing the home team, Ishfaq struck his third goal in the 35th minute and Waseem Feroz added one more to take the tally to five goals to nil at half time.

In the second half, the host team replaced injured Bilal Ahmad and Billu Khan and Rizwan Sheikh dominated the show by scoring three more goals.

Team captain Shahnaz Iqbal made a fabulous kick into the nets from 35 yards, 10 minutes before the end and substitute Tawfeeq Ahmad scored seventh goal for the team. In the dying moments, Ishfaq scored his fourth, team’s eighth goal.

In another match at Kashmir University grounds, Daman and Diu won by two goals to one against Pondicherry with their striker Francisco scoring twice.

Both teams are out of the competition as Jammu and Kashmir qualified from their group.

In another match played of the day at the Polo Ground, Tripura beat Gujarat by five goals to nil.

Kiran Chitri scored four times for Tripura in this Group III match. Chitri scored in the 9th, 48th, 65th and 72nd minute of the match and in between Binod also added to the tally in the 59th minute.

In the other matches of the day played at winter capital Jammu, Services and Orissa played a 1-1 draw at Maulana Azad Stadium.

A Group-II match at GGM Science College in Jammu between Nagaland and Manipur ended in a goalless draw.

An interesting encounter between Goa and Uttrakhand ended in favour of former as they won the match by three goals to one at Polo Ground here.

Nicolau of Goa scored first goal in the 17th minute to keep the team ahead by one goal at half time. Peter Carvalho scored second goal in the 58th minute but soon after Veer Singh of Uttrakhand reduced the margin by scoring for his team. In the last minutes Joaquin scored third goal for Goa.
