Nouakchott (Mauritania) : The interior ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the UN Children’s Fund (Unicef) have organised a training workshop to combat child smuggling and trafficking here, WAM news agency reported Saturday.
The workshop was inaugurated Friday by Mauritanian Justice Minister Yahya Ould Sid’el Moustaph and the inaugural session was attended by officials from the UAE, the Mauritanian government and the Unicef.
The two-day event is aimed at discussing best global practices in juvenile courts and judicial systems worldwide for the protection of human rights in general and minors’ rights in particular. It also includes discussions on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its implementation.
Unicef representative to Mauritania Christian Skoog said the training workshop would benefit the legal professionals and empower them to protect the society from the phenomena of child trafficking.
