Beirut : Three unexploded bombs were reportedly found inside a Lebanese army intelligence post near the northern city of Tripoli, local Naharnet news website reported on Monday.
Investigation showed that the shock of the first explosion which killed a Lebanese army soldier in the Akkar post on Saturday had apparently disabled the other bombs from blowing up, said the report.
The military prosecutor summoned all soldiers in Akkar post to investigate how the bombs reached the position without being noticed, according to the report.
Security officials said it was unclear what caused the explosion on Saturday in the Akkar area near the northern outskirts of Tripoli, adding that the army had found another primed device inside the post which was defused by explosive experts before it went off.
Investigators were trying to figure out when the explosives were planted.
The Akkar position was also a target during fierce confrontation in May 2007 between the Lebanese army and the Fatah al-Islam, a Muslim fundamentalist group in Palestinian camp of Nahr el-Bared in north Lebanon, killing 168 army troops and at least 222 Fatah al-Islam militants.
Though most of the group militants were either killed or arrested, their commander Shaker al-Abssi managed to escape. The group has vowed to avenge and retaliate from the Lebanese army.
