Congratulations but no concession from Clinton

New York : Hillary Clinton has paid tribute to her opponent but stopped short of officially conceding the race.

She had said earlier she was “open” to being Barack Obama’s running mate and congratulated him: “It has been an honour to contest these primaries with him, just as it is an honour to call him my friend. And tonight I would like all of us to take a moment to recognize him and his supporters for all they have accomplished.” Clinton said she would consider her future over the coming days.

“This has been a long campaign and I will be making no decisions tonight,” she said.

“In the coming days I’ll be consulting with supporters and party leaders to determine how to move forward with the best interest of our party and our country guiding my way.”

It is thought the former First Lady may delay formal concession to try to wring some promises from Obama in terms of staff transfers to his campaign, jobs in his administration and policy shifts.
