Munger: Credit for peace and progress in India today goes to Ulema and madrasas; Islam teaches peace and brotherhood; neither madrasas nor Muslims have ever been attached with terrorism, said Dr Izhar Alam, MLA, at Jamia Rahmani’s annual prize distribution programme.

He said my family has long been attached with Khanqah Rahmani and its reverend residents. If I am an MLA today, this is because of training and blessings of Ameer-e-Shariat Maulana Minnatullah Rahmani (late) and Maulana Muhammad Wali Rahmani. The peace and spiritual satisfaction I get here is difficult to find anywhere.

Dr Shabbir Hasan from RD & DJ College said those who are getting modern education have only one goal: to earn and get worldly progress. “But you, students of Islamic madrasa, have a much higher and esteemed goal. Your aim is to reform the society and lead the world according to Islam. Your position is much much higher than others, so is your responsibility,” he said. “You should keep an eye on world affairs – social, political and economic – so that you can lead people to right path,” he said.

Maulana Mufti Mohammad Azhar Mazahiri, secretary (education) of Jamia Rahmani, elaborated on courses and educational schemes at the madrasa. The certificate of Hafiz is given only to those students who have memorized Quran and can recite it in five days. Those who excel in examinations are provided scholarships. Competitions are also held for memorization of Quran. If a student is able to recite Quran in one day, he is given a high award.

At the prize distribution program held at Rahmania Library in Munger, 50 students were awarded. Of them, six were from speech competition and three each from Azan and Naat competitions. Twelve awardees were those who recited Quran in a day and 13 were those who got distinction marks in Hifz-e-Quran course. Besides, 21 students were given certificates of diploma in Arabic language. The course is run by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (Delhi).
