Cairo : A senior Egyptian official has affirmed significance of the Arab economic summit due to be hosted by Kuwait in January affirming that the event would affect future of the nation.
Minister of International Cooperation Fayzah Abul-Naja said in remarks published by the daily “Al-Akhbar” on Sunday that the summit would address the global food crisis, as well surging prices of food and fuel.
Abul Naja, also Egypt’s Permanent delegate at the Arab Economic Unity Council, affirmed that the body was playing a prime role in preparations for the crucial summit.
Agenda of the forthcoming session of the council, due to be held a few days ahead of the summit, will deal with a report including plans for coping with the food crisis.
Arab nations suffer from a food shortage, estimated at USD 20 billion, she said, calling on the Arab states to join hands to address this serious problem.
Egypt will address this problem at the summit, in addition to prospects of boosting inter-Arab investments, currently estimated at only USD seven billion per year.
