Seeking dismissal of the minister through a memorandum submitted to state Governor Balram Jakhar, the Congress alleged that Ahirwar was indulging in power theft for over eight years and none of his family members have an electricity connection.

“Still they were using all electrical gadgets including air-conditioners. Stolen electricity was used for lighting up the house during the marriage of minister’s son Laxmi a couple of months ago,” said Congress spokesman Manak Agarwal, who was among those who submitted the memorandum.

Ahirwar was made minister by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan June 5. A controversy took place when his son Laxmi assaulted a police officer for not arranging vehicles to ferry people to the state capital for his father’s oath- taking ceremony.

Laxmi and his two accomplices, who were accused of manhandling and abusing the police officer, were arrested and then released on bail Wednesday.
