Raipur : In a first incident of its kind in Chhattisgarh, Maoist guerrillas blew up the communication tower of a mobile phone company in the state’s restive southern region, the police said Saturday.
The incident took place just after Friday midnight in an interior forested village in Kanker district of Bastar region, considered a Maoist stronghold since 1980.
“Armed Maoists swooped on Podgaon village. After attacking a forest department check post, they set off explosions under the Idea Cellular tower,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Pawan Deo told IANS over telephone.
Idea Cellular is one of the leading mobile service providers in the state. It has a large number of subscribers, including in Bastar region.
