“The (second) grenade exploded inside the compound of Firdous cinema in old city area. Luckily nobody was injured in the explosion,” a senior police officer told IANS here.

Firdous cinema was closed in early 1990s after the outbreak of the separatist violence in the state. The theatre has since been converted into a makeshift camp for CRPF.

“The area has been cordoned off and we are mounting searches to locate the militants responsible for carrying out the grenade explosion,” the police officer said.

Earlier Saturday morning, a woman and a paramilitary trooper were injured in a grenade attack by separatist guerrillas outside the civil secretariat.

Police said the guerrillas hurled a grenade at a CRPF unit in Shatrashahi area, near the entrance to the civil secretariat.

“The grenade exploded on the road, injuring a woman and a head constable of the CRPF. Both have been taken to the SMHS hospital,” a police officer said.

The civil secretariat houses the offices of the chief minister and other ministers. Saturday being a holiday, the usual crowd at the secretariat was missing.
